Gunton Hall - January 2013

posted 19 Mar 2013, 21:29 by Francis Czuba
The worst snow of the winter failed to stop the travel plans or enthusiasm of our group at our now annual pilgrimage to Gunton Hall. Thirty three club members, some friends from Halex Bowls Club and Ernie's team made up our group of about fifty.
As usual much fun was had by all both during the two days of bowling and in the evenings. Unfortunately two couples were dispatched home early as a precaution as they had suspected norovirus; glad to say neither of the two people had it and quickly recovered at home. Once again the event was organised by Sheila Nash, and a big thank you was extended to her by the whole group.

Our group did well in the bowls competition, meaning 16 of us got an extra days b
owling. As usual we were pitted against other guest clubs including our old friends/adversaries from Rayleigh Bowls Club, but it was an all 'Sheila Nash's Group' semi-final with teams skipped by Brenda Perrett and Jim Heppel making it to the semi-finals being knocked out by a team skipped by Doreen Oddy which included the ubiquitous Sheila Nash who went on to become the runners-up. However the eventual winners after a week of good bowling by the whole group were the Halex team skipped by Keith Austin.
