YOUR LOCAL CLUB – Just off the A414 behind the TALBOT

Welcome to our website. If you live in West Essex you'll be glad you've found us. We're a small friendly club offering access to outdoor bowls, indoor short mat bowls and other activities like table tennis, bridge and social events. We're always looking for new members and our subscriptions are the lowest in the area. We'd especially like to hear from bowlers or anyone wishing to take up bowls. Thanks to a major grant from Sport England and the National Lottery, we had a new artificial green put down in 2017.

Thanks for your interest and feel free to explore the website further.

22/02/2021 NEWS UPDATE

Following the latest UK Government statement regarding the 'Road Map Out of Lockdown' Bowls England have said

"Today’s roadmap for the easing of lockdown restrictions enables Bowls England, counties and affiliated clubs to prepare with confidence for the 2021 outdoor season.  The Prime Minister’s announcement confirmed that outdoor affiliated bowls clubs will be able to open from 29 March.

Our overriding objective is for as many bowlers as possible to enjoy our sport in a safe manner this summer. Bowls is a naturally socially-distanced, non-contact activity and plays a key role in the mental and physical health of many across the country. The positive prospects for the new season provides a great boost to bowlers and the sport in general."

At Bantham & Ongar Bowls Club whilst the overwhelming majority of our existing bowlers are eager to start playing and are likely to have received their first vaccine, we understand there is a degree of nervousness about returning to the sport. We will be working alongside our  National and County Bodies to continue to create a Covid-safe environment.  We will continue to follow Government advice on the coronavirus outbreak and post any updates regarding the the restart of outdoor bowls and perhaps later the reopening of the club premises on this website.
We wish all members and friends well.

Bowls will always be our raison d'être but if not sports minded, how about the social side.
